New Descendant Creation
When you first enter the world of Ankhos, or any time afterward that you purchase a new Descendant, you will be asked to choose a class, gender affinity, and elemental affinity for your new level 1 Descendant.
Class
The class you select from new Descendant creation will determine the strengths, weaknesses, and combat style of your Descendant. Your class is not permanent and can be changed as you level up.
Sub-class
Your sub-class will be unlocked after reaching level 2. Whichever sub-class you choose will provide a third skill for your Descendant while they are fighting in the frontline of combat.
Gender Affinity
Gender affinity is simply cosmetic and has no affect on your Descendant’s combat capabilities. Once you have chosen a gender affinity for your Descendant, you cannot change it.
Elemental Affinity
While gender affinity does not affect the performance of your class, your elemental affinity boosts a core stat:
Fire: +2 Strength (STR)
Water: +2 Intellect (INT)
Air: +2 Speed (SPD)
Earth: +2 Vitality (VIT)
Once you have chosen an elemental affinity for your Descendant, you cannot change it.
Leveling Up
As you take your Descendant on adventures throughout Ankhos, you will gain experience (XP). Once you have accumulated enough XP to level up, you will unlock new classes for your Descendant, strengthen their core stats, and learn new skills.
The maximum level for a Descendant is level 5, so throughout your journey, you will have four opportunities to make improvements.
Gaining Experience (XP)
Most quests in Alchemy: Battle for Ankhos will award your Descendant experience (XP) upon completion. How much XP depends on how difficult or time-consuming the quest may be.
The amount of experience required for each level-up is:
Level 1 → 2: XXX
Level 2 → 3: XXX
Level 3 → 4: XXX
Level 4 → 5: XXX
Unlocking Classes
Each time your Descendant levels up, you may choose a new class to unlock.
This new class must be on an adjacent, connected path from the classes in the class tree you have already unlocked. If going for a hybrid class, such as the Templar, you must have already unlocked both colored paths it intersects.

You do not have to use this newly unlocked class right away, but it will be one of the only five classes you will unlock in your Descendant’s lifetime, so choose wisely!
Each new class comes with new skills you can access by equipping the class as your main class or sub class. Main classes will grant your Descendant access to both of the class’ skills, whereas sub classes will only grant access to the first skill (see Classes and Skills for more on this).
Changing Classes
At any time, you can return to your Descendant from the Serai menu to change your main class and sub class. However, you will only be able to choose from the classes you have unlocked for that Descendant.

Strengthening Core Stats
Whenever your Descendant levels up, you may also allocate XXX points into their core stats. Core stats determine the strengths and weaknesses of your Descendant in combat.
As of now, core stats cannot be changed once points have been placed.
To learn more about how core stats affect combat, see Combat Mechanics.
